Handy Links : IE6 Behaves Like IE7

Interesting article about a JavaScript that basically turns IE6 into IE7 as far as CSS behavior goes. Some goodies it helps fix include PNGs (as background images, or inline), multiple classes, margin, cursor and display issues.

I haven’t tried it out yet, but the link was worth mentioning!

Website Profile : Puppy Fan Club

My new website Puppy Fan Club was recently featured on the CSS gallery site CSS Based. I was thrilled that my submission was selected!

It can be intimidating to step into the spotlight and show your work to the world. For better or worse, it was an exhilarating feeling seeing my site listed in the gallery. For anyone that’s working out there on a site you feel really proud of, take the chance and put yourself out there. The feedback I’ve gotten, both positive and negative, has helped me grow and improve the site. Overall it’s been a great learning experience!

Website Profile : BART

When it comes to public service and government websites, I’ve never been exactly thrilled. However, I came across the official site for BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) and was pleasantly surprised.

Incorporating a soothing color scheme with modernized layout and functionality this site is a definite step up for transportation websites (compared to my city’s public transport site. Gag!). They use plug-ins from YUI to get some sweet interface effects, which in turn make planning arrivals and departures a snap.

Design-wise, I think the rounded corner box with a steep angle works but is close to being overdone. Luckily, they only use it in the header and the homepage. That design element could easily get abused and turn the site into a train wreck. No pun intended.

Overall I think this site is hip and appealing to a younger audience and is successful in branding BART in a modern way.

Handy Links : Another IE PNG Fix

Here is another resource for the dreaded IE PNG fix. The Unit PNG Fix uses a GIF image and a small JavaScript file to display PNG images correctly in IE6. I haven’t tried it out yet but it seems pretty simple. You can watch a video tutorial from CSS-Tricks about this script, or check out the site here.
